Language Teaching Symposium 2008 - 30 May 2008 - Ghent

An interactive international symposium on the role of language assessment in higher education. The theme of this second Language Teaching Symposium is 'Towards new modes of assessment', with a focus on

  • the implications of communicative, authentic and task-based teaching on evaluation;
  • reconciling assessment with competency-related requirements (as resulting from the Bologna process).

The LTS 2008 will be held at Zaal Nemrod, Goudstraat 37 (entrance via Willem de Beersteeg), 9000 Ghent (Belgium) on the 30th of May 2008, 9 am - 5 pm.

International CDIO Conference - June 2008 - Ghent

Universities all over the world participating in the CDIO Initiative gather several times a year in order to exchange ideas and experiences, evaluate the developments at each partner institution, assess the Initiative's progress and fine-tune the project further. The CDIO Annual Conference is the largest meeting of the year and the programme includes the presentation of papers and other special seminars, workshops, events, and activities. The topics are:

• Application of CDIO to a wide range of disciplines
• Curriculum and programme design
• The involvement of industry in engineering education
• Technology-enhanced learning
• Development of professional competences
• Assessment of professional competences
• Design-implement experiences
• Facilitating change in engineering education
• Supporting sciences (maths, physics, chemistry …) and CDIO
• Evaluating the Impact of CDIO Programs
• Student involvement in the development of engineering education
• Active and experiential learning

Other schools and individuals interested in the CDIO Initiative are very welcome to attend as well. The conference offer many opportunities to learn about CDIO and to discuss its implementation in new locations.

The CDIO Annual Conference 2008 will be held at University College Ghent (Hogeschool Gent), Belgium from 16 to 19 June 2008.

A little extra for early registrants:
First 100 registrants will get free public transportation in the city of Ghent for the duration of the conference!

This site visit is the ideal opportunity to experience Flanders' most popular student city and learn about the Association and its partners. Following an introduction on higher education in Flanders, the Ghent University Association will present its unique cooperation between a traditional university and three university colleges focusing on research and education. The Association's vision and everyday approach to quality assurance and internationalisation will be the focus of the presentation, as well as the important position, contribution and collaboration of the four institutions. After lunch in a historic monastery, you will experience the integration of research and education in beautiful campuses throughout the city of Ghent.
